The STEM Foundation Engineering Technology Pathway is specifically designed to help you transfer to a four-year institution to complete your bachelor’s degree in a STEM field. North Shore Community College has transfer agreements with many universities, making it easy for you to continue your studies at a four-year school.
Engineering technology plays a vital role in the economic development of the United States and the world. It shares a common foundation with traditional engineering, rooted in mathematics, science, and design principles, but places greater emphasis on practical application.
While engineers often focus on conceptual design, theoretical analysis, and innovation, engineering technologists concentrate on implementing those designs in real-world settings. In this way, engineering technology serves as the application-focused arm of engineering.
Technologists bridge the gap between theoretical engineering and hands-on operation by developing, testing, and refining processes, systems, and products.
In many projects:
- The engineer ensures a design is theoretically sound.
- The technologist develops and optimizes methods to realize the design practically.
- The technician maintains and operates the necessary equipment.
Together, these roles form an integrated team that brings ideas from concept to reality.
