Program Overview

The Sustainable Horticulture Certificate prepares students for entry-level careers or advancement in the green industry, including greenhouse and nursery management, plant production, tree and turf care management, and landscape maintenance and design, and plant production. With elective choices tailored to your interests and internship options, you’ll build both practical skills and professional experience. This certificate also supports students with prior work or education in horticulture to deepen and formalize their expertise.

Graduates of the Sustainable Horticulture certificate are prepared for a variety of roles in the green industry, such as:

  • Greenhouse and Nursery Manager
  • Arborist or Community Forester
  • Landscape Foreman/Supervisor
  • Estate Gardener/Manager
  • Horticulture/Landscape Technician
  • Landscape Designer

As part of this program, students will enhance their career development by integrating classroom study and work experience through participation in NSCC’s Cooperative Education/Internship.

Planning to continue your education beyond an associate degree? North Shore Community College has established transfer agreements with several four-year institutions, making it easier to pursue a bachelor's degree in the green industry or related fields. Students are encouraged to consult with academic advisors to explore transfer agreements and plan their academic pathways accordingly.
