Also indicate whether the position is paid or unpaid.

As a host employer, you will:

  • Provide an on-site supervisor to mentor the student and oversee their work.

  • Consistently communicate scheduling, expectations, and any workplace policies (e.g., hours, dress code, safety, drug/alcohol testing) with the student.

  • Facilitate timely feedback or evaluation (if required), and coordinate with NSCC faculty/ coordinators as needed.

  • The standard term is 120 hours per semester, typically over 10–15 hours per week.
  • Students generally should not resign before completing all required hours. If an early resignation is necessary, it must be discussed in advance with the Internship Coordinator and Faculty Coordinator.
  • If a student is terminated (“fired”), they must notify the Internship Coordinator immediately. Placement in a new internship depends on extenuating circumstances.
  • Compensation (if offered) is subject to federal and state taxes, as well as social security.
  • Internships may be paid or unpaid. Whether paid or unpaid should be made clear in the job posting.

  • Provide a clear and detailed job description before the posting deadline to help ensure strong candidates.
  • Offer meaningful, relevant work or projects that help the student grow professionally and academically.
  • Maintain open communication with the student and with NSCC’s Internship Coordinator/faculty.
  • Use the internship as an opportunity to evaluate potential long-term employees.
