EMS102 – Emergency Medical Care (First Responder Certification)

This nationally recognized training course equips you with advanced first aid skills. Learn to handle emergencies like bleeding, fractures, burns, seizures, rescue operations, and more. You’ll also receive a First Responder certification (following National DOT guidelines) and an American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR card upon successful completion.

Credits: 3 credits
Ideal for lifeguards, ski patrol, law enforcement, firefighting, etc.

EMS104 – Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Basic Certification)

Start your EMS career with this comprehensive EMT-Basic course. You'll learn critical skills including patient assessment, airway management, CPR, defibrillation, oxygen administration, spine immobilization, and treatment for shock, poisoning, childbirth, and more. This 9-credit course prepares you to sit for the Massachusetts State EMT exam. Attendance of 95% is required, and exam fees are separate. Students must be 18 to take the state exam.

Credits: 9 credits
Ideal for aspiring EMTs, firefighters, paramedics, EMS squads.

Next Steps

1. Meet all eligibility requirements:

   • be enrolled in an eligible institution, as defined;
     
   • physically reside in Massachusetts for at least one year, as of the start of the enrolled term,
     with an intent to remain in Massachusetts consistent with Board of Higher Education (BHE)
     policy;
     
   • be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, or non-citizen eligible under Title IV
     regulations; or have an approved eligibility status designated by the BHE pursuant to the
     Massachusetts Tuition Equity Law 3 or otherwise;
     
   • complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or, if ineligible to complete
     the FAFSA, then complete the Massachusetts Application for State Financial Aid (MASFA);
     
   • comply with financial aid verification requirements;
     
   • not be in default on any federal or state student loans for attendance at any institution, or
     owe a refund for any previous state financial aid program;
     
   • meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) according to institution’s requirements and
     federal standards.

3. Fill out the FAFSA to ensure your eligibility requirements are met.  

4. Enroll:

   • Fill out the 2025-2026 Course registration Form.
   • Submit via NSCC Secure Email Portal.

5. Meet other requirements (especially attendance for EMS104), and succeed in your certification exams.
