As we begin ramping up our planning for the fall semester, the COVID reopening team (a cross-section of faculty, staff, and students, to ensure that all constituencies are represented) is hard at work identifying the ideal campus footprint for our students, faculty, and staff. Whatever is decided, above all, it will be guided by safety first. We are looking at all of the elements that make for a successful reentry. This includes, but is not limited to, facilities (e.g., classroom space, social distancing guidelines), technology needs, cleaning protocols, staffing to meet the needs of our students (including the ability to provide services remotely), union and employee concerns, academic and student support services, and potential areas of risk. To ensure that faculty and staff are kept abreast of the work that is underway, a COVID communication update is sent out weekly.
We are also listening to our students by way of a student survey. The survey provided valuable information about what worked for them and what they would like going forward. Where safety is our first priority, student success comes in at number two and to that end, it is important that we thoughtfully consider what will work best for them.
