Dr. Dennis Camacho has joined North Shore Community College (NSCC) as the inaugural Director of Academic Success. In this new position, Camacho will direct and provide operational oversight for tutoring and academic support/success areas. Prior to joining NSCC, Camacho served as the Assistant Dean of Organizational Leadership and Learning in the School of Education at Endicott College.
Camacho was considered an “at-risk youth” growing up but had the opportunity to further his education through a university program created by Affirmative Action Legislation. With its support, he became a first-generation Latino college student and a scholar. As a result of unfortunate campus marginalization, he became a student activist. He then dedicated himself to not only earning an education, but addressing systemic barriers to the success of students, particularly underrepresented groups.
He’s been an active member of NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) since 1999, joining the National Latino Knowledge Community and the African American Knowledge Community. Camacho is currently in his second term as MA NASPA State Director for MA NASPA’s Steering Board.
A resident of Reading, Camacho earned his Ed.D. from Northeastern University, an M.A. in Higher Education Administration and an M.A. in Secondary Math Education, both from Teachers College Columbia University, and a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Hofstra University.
