Marissa Vaillancourt, of Millbury, has been elected by her student peers to be the student representative on North Shore Community College’s (NSCC) Board of Trustees.
She is enrolled in the school’s Funeral Service and Mortuary Science program. She is a member of the school’s National Society of Leadership and Success and is past president of Phi Theta Kappa.
“I like being involved and the more I am, the more motivated I become,” Vaillancourt said. “I love having a positive impact on others and working with students. I hope to give them the inspiration and chance to succeed that my teachers have always given me.” She intends to engage with fellow NSCC students through social media to seek their input and ideas.
In addition to her studies, Vaillancourt works part-time as a funeral assistant at Jackman’s Funeral home in Whitinsville as well as working full-time with middle school students as an instructional assistant. She noted that NSCC’s funeral services program being contained in one-day-a-week curriculum made it very appealing to her.
Vaillancourt intends to transfer to a 4-year state college to obtain bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.
