Coronavirus Update from President Gentile, March 20

Greetings Students and North Shore Community,

Today is our last day of Spring Break.  We have all been working hard to transition our credit and non-credit courses, program courses and services to remote access.  This is in keeping with the current MA state of emergency guidelines. We know you are nervous about how your courses may be transitioning and if you will be successful in these remote options.  Please try out the new options - we have extended the dates for course withdrawals.

Don't let school add to the stress you are already under.  We will do our best to help you succeed at NSCC.

Most credit and non-credit courses are resuming this coming Monday, March 23 - that includes all that have been online since the beginning of the semester, all but two hybrid courses, and 701 credit and non-credit courses that were in-person in the classroom that have transitioned to a remote option.  The remaining credit and non-credit courses will resume on Monday, March 30, but that is a much smaller group.  We are also finalizing plans for the courses that require labs and simulations - more to come on that later.

If you have not already been contacted by your course instructor or the NSCC Academic Division Office, you will be over the weekend!  Remember, NSCC email is our official means of communication, so log into your my.northshore.edu account to bring up your email often.

Starting Monday, March 23, the Open Computer Labs at the Lynn and Danvers Campuses will be open as follows but you can’t just walk in, you must schedule a time.  You will find a new tile in your mynorthshore.edu to schedule that appointment, entitled: Open Lab Appointment Request.  Here’s the location and hours for this week.

Lynn Open Lab
Room LE226
Hours:  9am to 5pm
Hour Limit: 2 hours

Danvers Open Lab
New Location: Berry Bldg. room DB201
Hours: 9am to 5pm
Hour Limit: 2 Hours

Many computers have been removed from the Open Lab to provide adequate social distancing but that also means less capacity.  If you have technology and internet access at home, we hope you will utilize that access and equipment rather than come to campus.  We know that many of our students rely on the open computer labs to do their course work.

Also starting Monday, March 23, the Center for Alternative Studies testing centers will be open from 9 AM to 5 PM on the Lynn and Danvers Campuses.  However, you must schedule an appointment in order to be admitted. This is a way for us to insure your health and safety and adhere to social distancing criteria.  In order to make that appointment, utilize the Registration Blast app for appointment setting.

The Campus Libraries will be open only in remote fashion as will Tutoring Services.  More to come regarding how to access these supports.

At both campuses, the NSCC cafeterias and bookstores are closed.

In order to be admitted to the Lynn Campus:  Park in Washington Street parking lot and enter the building through the east entrance (where the gym entrance from the hallway is) go to Campus Police dispatch and sign in upon entry and sign out upon exit.  For those walking or taking public transit to the Lynn Campus, you will need to walk down Washington Avenue to go through the large parking lot to the east entrance.

In order to be admitted to the Danvers Campus:The entrance will be Door #12 at the Math and Science Building.  This is the door just past the loading dock as you drive from parking lot #1 to Parking lot #7 behind the Berry Building. The door is pink and above the door is the sign that says “Campus Police”   Please use that door and sign in upon entry and sign out upon exit.

The Middleton Campus remains closed to the public and students.
