COVID-19 Refresher
Now that the Fall term has officially begun, we think it is important to send out a refresher on what to do when you test positive for COVID-19 or come in close contact with someone who tested positive. We want to assure the community that we are staying up to date with any guidelines and guidance from the CDC and the MA Department of Public Health. This guidance, including what to do if you are in close contact with someone who tested positive, can be found here: COVID-19 GUIDELINES
Any Faculty/Staff member who tests positive should contact Jennifer Chavez, HR Operations & Benefits Manager, at jchavez@northshore.edu or hr@northshore.edu. If a student tests positive, they should be directed to studentcovid@northshore.edu. This email is checked daily by Jason Marsala, Dean of Enrollment Services. Either way, they will be directed to the appropriate website and given the following guidance: *
If you test positive for COVID-19 (isolate)
If you test positive for COVID-19 on either a rapid antigen or PCR test, you are required
to self-isolate – whether you are vaccinated or not. Do not leave your home, except
to get medical care. Do not visit public areas. Self-isolation means separating yourself
from others to keep your germs from spreading. Regardless of vaccination status, all
individuals who test positive should avoid people who are at high risk of severe disease
for 10 days.

CTLI Coffee and Conversations
Over the fall semester, the CTLI will be hosting a series of informational sessions on a variety of teaching, learning, and assessment topics. The Coffee and Conversations sessions will be held virtually on Fridays from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. All are welcome! Join us with your favorite cup of coffee or tea and we will bring the topics to hopefully spur plenty of conversations.
Please note the time change. We are trying a different time this fall to see if it better helps accommodate Friday teaching schedules. We also know that there is no ideal time so we will record each session and make it available for later viewing.
The first Coffee and Conversations session will be on Friday, September 29th and the topic will be “Reaching All Learners: Creating Accessible Course Materials”. Accessible course materials lead to quality and usability improvements, which can ultimately benefit all students. In this session, we will explore the top challenges around accessible course materials and share strategies to help faculty make their documents more accessible to students. We will also showcase Blackboard Ally, a tool that provides accessibility awareness for faculty as well as a way for students to download more accessible formats of documents. And there will be time for questions and sharing other ideas and strategies. This session is part of our ongoing Equity-Minded Teaching Series.
Please use the following Zoom meeting link for all Coffee and Conversations sessions.

Future Coffee and Conversations sessions will be held on the following Fridays (listed below) so please save the dates in your calendar.

Join us for Mental Health First Aid Training!
Mental Health First Aid is being offered to NSCC faculty, staff, and students. It is designed to help address the Mental Health concerns of our students and our colleagues. It is our goal that each of you view MHFA similar to that of CPR - you won't be a doctor when you finish the training, but you could help someone who is having a mental health challenge.
The training focuses on helping participants recognize someone who is having a mental health challenge, how to approach them (if you choose to), how to engage in reflective listening, and how to assist the individual to connect with appropriate services within the community. A major focus of this training is also speaking about the need for self-care, as each of us encounters stressors in our day-to-day life. The National Council for Mental Wellbeing provides the certification upon completion of the training.
If you are interested in the blended MHFA training you will need to commit to the
following:
Approximately 2 hours of individual "pre-work; to be completed prior to your in-person
session and participation in one of the in-person sessions listed below at your preferred
campus. The link to complete the pre-work will be sent to your email two weeks in
advance of your scheduled training date. The training is open for up to 24 people
per session per campus. Please note that this is on a first come-first served basis.
Deadline for this selected training: Wednesday, Oct 4th
Friday, October 20th from 9:00am - 3:00pm
Danvers Campus: DB 304
Lynn Campus: LS 312
Please consult with your supervisor prior to registering. A light lunch will be served but feel free to bring personal snacks & drinks to enjoy throughout the session.
Please complete MHFA Training Registration Form
Sincerely your MHFA trainers,

Pottery Sale
To Benefit Dana Farber Cancer Institute
Sunday, October 1
12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Rain or Shine
21 Swampscott Ave., Peabody, MA
Cost $20
On August 5th & 6th, I rode in my 25th Pan Mass Challenge (PMC). Since 1980, the PMC has raised an unprecedented $900 million
for Dana Farber Cancer Institute. With your help over the years, I have raised over
$127,000. My goal this year is to raise $12,000.
This year I rode with Team BrainStorms in honor of Declan Vail, pictured left, an incredibly brave and resilient 7-year-old who is in treatment at Dana Farber. Half of the money I raise this year will go into the general PMC fund and half will support research for pediatric brain cancer, in hopes of finding a cure for Declan and other kids with PLGGs with an FGFR1 mutation.
The cost of $20 (you can donate more if you like!) will include soup, salad, dessert, a piece of pottery and the satisfaction that you are helping fight cancer. Additional pieces may be purchased. As always, we will be raffling off many other handcrafted items. Winning raffle prize tickets will be pulled at 3:00 p.m. but you do not have to be present to win. Feel free to stop by for a quick visit or stay for the duration.
If you cannot join us, you can still sponsor my ride by using the link http://www.pmc.org/egifts/AO0005 to make your pledge. You can also donate by mailing a check to me at 21 Swampscott Ave., Peabody, MA 01960. Checks should be made out to PMC/Jimmy Fund.
Your support is so very important. Thank you for your kindness.
Sincerely,
Professor Anne O’Shea
