This fall, the NSCC Foundation was proud to honor The Derderian Family for its exemplary and inspiring commitment to scholarships for student success through the Dean Lillian A. Derderian Scholarship.
Dr. Lillian Derderian founded NSCC’s Guidance Department and served as Dean of Students until her retirement in 1995. Her daughter, April Derderian Fellows, shared their story on behalf of the family.
“Being part of NSCC meant everything to my mother, and by virtue of that, it meant everything to us. Mom wanted the Dean Lillian A. Derderian Scholarship to be a life changer for its recipients. She loved her students, especially the women. She wanted them to know they could do it, and I think she accomplished that.
This scholarship is her legacy. By investing for success, you are planting the seeds today for what’s going to come tomorrow. You’re helping so many people who otherwise might not have the opportunity. It may seem like a small thing to you, but it’s a huge thing to the students of NSCC
The Traicoff Award was established in 2019 in the name of Dr. George Traicoff, NSCC President Emeritus, who launched the NSCC Scholarship Program in 1985 in partnership with the NSCC Foundation. This award is presented annually at the NSCC Foundation’s Scholarship Awards Celebration.
