Nation’s top two-year colleges for adult learners For the third consecutive year, North Shore Community College (NSCC) has been ranked as one of the nation’s top two-year colleges for adult learners. NSCC rose in rank from 16 up to 13 out of the 978 community colleges sampled, and was again the best Massachusetts community college at serving adult learners, scoring at the highest levels for flexibility of programs, ease of transfer, and services for adult students by Washington Monthly magazine’s annual College Guide and Rankings.
2020 Carnegie Community Engagement Classification North Shore Community College’s (NSCC) ongoing commitment to community engagement has resulted in the college receiving the 2020 Carnegie Community Engagement Classification. NSCC is the only community college in Massachusetts, and one of only 3 community colleges nationwide, chosen out of the 119 U.S. colleges and universities selected to receive the designation for 2020. This is the college’s second Carnegie Foundation distinction.
Military Friendly® School For the tenth consecutive year, North Shore Community College (NSCC) has received designation as a Military Friendly® School. The designation honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools which are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members and veterans as students. Military Friendly® ratings and resources provide service members and their families with the information they need to make decisions about civilian careers and education opportunities.
Deval Patrick Prize for Community Colleges North Shore Community College (NSCC) was awarded the Boston Foundation’s 6th Annual Deval Patrick Prize for Community Colleges. NSCC received a $50,000 prize in recognition of the Machining Training Program, a collaborative partnership between NSCC, technical training institutions and local employers to prepare unemployed or underemployed workers for advanced manufacturing jobs.
2020 CASE Educational Fundraising Award North Shore Community College (NSCC) received an award for Overall Improvement in Fundraising (over a three-year period) for Public Community Colleges with endowments under $8 million by CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) is a nonprofit association of colleges, universities and independent schools. The annual CASE Education Fundraising Awards recognize exemplary development programs.
Outstanding Allied Health Outcomes
NSCC Nursing students have once again earned top annual licensure pass rates, surpassing Commonwealth and national averages. The Nurse Education (RN) graduating class of 2019 achieved a 98% pass rate for first-time test takers on the National Licensure Exam while the Practical Nursing (LPN) students scored a 96% pass rate on the Practical Nursing National Licensure Exam. These numbers exceed the 2019 national average of 88% and 86% for RNs and LPNs, respectively, and the Commonwealth’s average 2019 pass rate of 91% for RNs and 93% for LPNs.
NSCC’s Respiratory Care Program graduates achieved the highest pass rates in Massachusetts on the RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist – the advanced credential) national licensure exam. Although the national average for success on the RRT exam is 80%, NSCC scored above that average at 97%, the highest in the Commonwealth.
