AY 2024-2025 Governance Elections 

Please nominate any employee for an appropriate vacancy or indicate your interest in serving on a committee by submitting the person's name, the name of the committee, and component area via e-mail with the subject "Governance Nomination" to the Forum Steering Committee at forum_gov@northshore.edu by 5 PM on Friday, April 12th. 

This Governance Membership document provides a listing of vacancies (highlighted in green), showing the method of selection, the term end date, and the component for the position. All elected positions serve for two years from Fall 2024 to Spring 2026 (except for those completing a vacancy mid-term, as may be noted on the list of vacancies).  Appointments also serve for two years with the exception of the adjunct faculty and student appointments, which have a one-year term. You can submit your name for an elected position, an appointed position, or both. Names submitted for appointed positions will be forwarded through the appropriate appointing authority.

If you are in a two-year term position that is expiring this year, you can be nominated for another two-year term in the same or on a different committee.

Elections and appointments for Forum Steering Committee and Standing/Advisory Committee positions for AY 2024-2025 will take place in accordance with the schedule and process outlined below:

GOVERNANCE ELECTIONS SCHEDULE AND PROCESS
March 25 and April 8	Committee positions up for election and appointment for AY 2024-2025 are posted in The NSCC Bulletin.
March 25 - April 12	Faculty and staff submit nominations or indicate interest in open positions by sending their name, the name of the committee for the appropriate vacancy (whether appointed or elected), and name of the component according to the position on the attached list. Nominations must be submitted by 5 pm on 4/12 to forum_gov@northshore.edu
April 16 Division Meeting	The names of faculty interested in governance vacancies are sent to the Deans and a ballot election is conducted at the division meeting for division-specific positions.
April 22 – April 26	Online voting period for all non-division contested elections.  Voting will conclude at 5 pm, April 26.
April 19	Adjunct faculty appointment submitted by the appropriate appointing authority.
May 6	Results announced in The NSCC Bulletin.
May 14 or alternate date	New Standing Committees will meet to conduct elections for Standing Committee Chair and Representative to the Forum Steering Committee. Some Standing/Advisory Committees will meet on May 14th, or on an alternate date agreed to by committee members [most committees meet briefly immediately after the College Breakfast in May (date to be determined) to elect a Chair and Forum Steering Committee Representative for the next academic year].
May 20	Forum Steering Committee (with both returning and newly elected and appointed members) will meet to elect Chair, Vice Chair and Moderator for AY 2024-2025
September	Student appointments submitted by the appropriate appointing authority.

NSCC Police Host Natural Gas Tabletop Exercise
with Emergency Responders

A natural gas tabletop exercise took place on March 11, 2024, which brought together multiple NSCC departments and municipal police and fire emergency personnel to test and evaluate safety procedures in the event of a natural gas emergency on the Danvers campus. The exercise was part of ongoing emergency response planning being conducted by the NSCC Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Participants of this exercise were given the hypothetical scenario that a construction contractor damaged a natural gas line while digging in the parking lot behind the Math and Science Building creating a gas leak, and were asked to respond as if it were a real emergency.

Exercises such as this are important because if a real emergency were to occur, we have already thought through our response and practiced our procedures.The frequency and content of tabletop exercises is currently being assessed to determine how best to serve our college community.

The importance of collaboration between the various college departments and our municipal emergency agencies during emergency events is critical. We are fortunate to share a strong partnership with the municipal police and fire departments, and these collaborations in coordination with the performance of emergency exercises help us to be well prepared for emergencies and to identify areas for improvement.

THANK YOU for all of your support for Black History Month 2024!!!

NSCC’s Black History Month, led by this year’s theme African Americans and the Arts, was a fantastic opportunity to learn about the importance of Black history, and its significant impact on the arts in this country. So many of you engaged and participated in our interactive exhibits in our Danvers and Lynn libraries, checked out the short films on display from our partners at RAW Art Works, and learned from our Weekly Wave posts about Black music, film, literature, and community activism.

We closed the month with our first ever Artists’ Salon, featuring members of the NSCC community sharing their poetry, song, cultural history, film, hair styling, and graphic arts! Watch the video of the Artists Salon here.

All of this was possible due to the hard work of our planning team, our community artists, and our valued local partners. So special thanks to: Our Salon Performers: Rudy Pena, Peter J. Vonyeegar, Miguel Valdez and Eunice Beato, Kent Then, Fernand Petit Frere, Jr., and the NSCC Cosmetology School.

Our Local Partners: Raw Art Works youth contributed paintings in the Student Lounge and short films on view in both Libraries, and AbondiZ Caribbean Cuisine and Aladdin provided the delicious Caribbean food and soul food!

NSCC Foundation Scholarships – 2024 Cycle 

This year’s Foundation Scholarship cycle opened to students on March 1^st.  Eligible students (those with 6 earned credits and a GPA of 2.5 OR Spring 2024 new or transfer students who are registered for 6 or more credits) will be notified via email at the beginning of March that the system is open and ready to receive applications.  New applicants will be notified once they are accepted and have an NSCC ID and email address. Strategic Plan Ideas Outreach

Think strategy. Share your ideas.

We are now planning for year three (FY25) tactical activities. Please use this form to submit your ideas. Be sure to link it to the appropriate priority:

• Priority 1: Align the College with regional needs to spur academic innovation and holistic student Support. Align community partnerships to educate the whole student

• Priority 2: Promote social justice at NSCC and in the community by delivering equitable student outcomes 

• Priority 3: Build a transformative, future-focused environment for and with the NSCC community. 

Additionally, please describe the timeline, responsible parties, benchmarks, anticipated outcomes, and resources required for the activity. All submissions will be reviewed by the Strategic Plan Tactical Committee and the Cabinet for feasibility and resource availability. Ideas not considered for FY25 will remain in a database for a potential future action in a later year of the plan.

Women's History Month

Women’s History Month had its origins as a national celebration in 1981 when Congress passed Pub. L. 97-28 which authorized and requested the President to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982 as “Women’s History Week.” Throughout the next five years, Congress continued to pass joint resolutions designating a week in March as “Women’s History Week.” In 1987 after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress passed Pub. L. 100-9 which designated the month of March 1987 as “Women’s History Month.” Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women’s History Month. Since 1995, presidents have issued a series of annual proclamations designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.” These proclamations celebrate the contributions women have made to the United States and recognize the specific achievements women have made over the course of American history in a variety of fields.

The Commonwealth's new MassReconnect program  provides financial support to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books and supplies as well as provide funding for support services to encourage students to stay enrolled and complete their degree. Students must be Massachusetts' residents, over 25, with a complete FAFSA.  Students can get help with the FAFSA here.
