Download the checklist as a PDF file >
Applicants MUST attend a Mandatory Information Session prior to submission of your
application. Applicants must attend a session during the academic year prior to admission
(after September 2024). Upcoming dates will be available by visiting: https://www.northshore.edu/academics/programs/fns/index.html
Attendance will be recorded.
Upload a copy of your high school transcript or GED score report (required even if you submit higher level coursework). If you previously submitted the transcript or score report and attended classes within the past 5 years, then Enrollment likely has it on file. You can confirm by emailing: SelectiveAdmissions@northshore.edu
Upload a Word-Processed Essay
A word-processed essay must be uploaded for the year in which you are applying. Please compose an essay detailing your answer to the following questions:
-
What led you to an interest in the field of funeral service?
-
What do you feel you can contribute to this profession that is unique?
-
Why do you feel you would be a good candidate for the funeral services program at NSCC?
All official transcripts from previously attended Colleges/Universities MUST be submitted directly to NSCC and uploaded by Admissions staff. We cannot accept copies of transcripts coming directly from applicants. If you have previously submitted transcripts and have since completed courses or are currently registered for courses, then you need to submit an updated transcript.
Transcripts may be sent electronically from college(s) to NSCC at: SelectiveAdmissions@northshore.edu or mailed to:
North Shore Community College
Attn: Admissions/Human Services/ERP
1 Ferncroft Rd.
Danvers, MA 01923
Submit a detailed resume including professional experience, volunteer experience, education, and professional organizations that you are a member of. Please include any funeral home experience, if applicable.
Applicants must submit ONE letter of recommendation. It is strongly preferred that the letter be from a licensed funeral professional or similar field. You will need to enter the name and email of your reference into your application and a direct link to upload a letter of recommendation will be sent directly to them. (Your application will not be complete and able to be submitted until this has been entered).
There are many ways to determine this. Please review the list HERE carefully.
If you have demonstrated proficiency with your high school GPA or with college level
courses, this will be updated upon review of your submitted materials. If you have
demonstrated proficiency with your SAT scores or Accuplacer testing from another institution,
please upload that document to your application. If you do not demonstrate this proficiency from the list, please plan to take the
math Accuplacer Exam(s) at our testing center. This can be done remotely during testing
center hours. Let them know the program you are applying to. https://www.northshore.edu/cas/testing/index.html Note: Once admitted, students must also meet the prerequisities for CHE115 (Chemistry
of the Human Body) otherwise they may have to take a math course(s) which may interfere
with program progress. CHE115 math prerequisities include Mathematics Proficiency
AND one of the following:
-
Next Generation Quantitative Analysis, Algebra and Statistics 247 or above (offered in our testing center and recommended for students applying to program who need to meet this requirement)
-
PSAT Math 540 or higher
-
SATM 510 or above (if taken prior to 2016) or SATM 540 or above
-
ACT 22 or above
-
CLEAR 54 or above
-
* High School GPA 2.7 or above (*Must be within 3 years post high school.)
-
MAT 091 or MAT 002 or MAT 061 or MAT 094 with a C or better
-
Math Module 8 or above.
Ideally, applicants should aim to meet this benchmark when applying to the program.
There are many ways to demonstrate this. (See link below). If you have demonstrated proficiency with your SAT scores or Accuplacer testing from another institution, please upload that document to your application. If you have demonstrated proficiency with your high school GPA or with college level courses, this will be updated upon review of your submitted materials.
