    Program Description

    Career, Degree (AAS)

    The Animal Care Specialist program is designed for students wishing to work with dogs, cats and other small animals in various aspects. The first year is identical for all of the Animal Care Programs.
    However, the second year of this program offers accepted students the choice of three concentrations of study.

    >Core general program concentration that will include courses focusing on the business aspect of animal care and management
    >Community concentration incorporates courses in psychology and criminal justice to prepare the animal care student for employment in animal control and rescue
    >Grooming concentration emphasizes lecture and lab to educate an animal care student with different breed profiles and the advanced skill to become a professional groomer

    Graduates of the ASD degree program could seek employment in various fields such as: Animal Control, Shelter and Rescue, Animal Day Care and Boarding, Kennel Management, Dog Walking, Training, Grooming, Retail, and other professional occupations related to the management and care of pets.

    Simultaneous awarding of Certificate and Degree policy: Certificates whose coursework is embedded in an Associate's degree program will not be awarded simultaneously in the same term as the degree is awarded; i.e. Animal Care Specialist(ASD) and Animal Care Specialist Certificate(ASC).
