Program Overview
The Cosmetology Clock-Hour Certificate is a comprehensive 9-month program designed to provide students with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required in the field of cosmetology. The curriculum encompasses the basics of art and science related to cosmetology, along with general education and management fundamentals pertinent to salon operations. The program adheres to the guidelines set by the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Cosmetology and Barbering.
Upon successful completion of 1,000 clock hours of theory and practice, students become eligible to take the Massachusetts State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering Examination, a requisite for licensure in the state. Before applying to the program, all students must attend an Information Session.

Students who apply to the program must:
- Possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Attend a Mandatory Information Session (more information below).
- Take the Computerized Placement Tests (CPTs) PRIOR to Registration - These tests provide important information about skills in reading, writing, English and mathematics and may be used for advising purposes. Students must have a passing score in English.View and print the required courses for the Community Health Worker Certificate.

Location: In-Person at Essex North Shore Technical School, 565 Maple Street, Danvers, Mass.
Duration: Approximately 1 hour

While the Cosmetology Certificate is primarily designed for immediate entry into the workforce, students interested in further education may explore additional programs within NSCC's Human Services & Emergency Response pathways.
