Please direct any questions about or issues with Blackboard Learn to the NSCC Blackboard Learn Helpdesk at bbhelp@northshore.edu.

Blackboard Learn is the college's learning management system (LMS) and it is used to provide faculty and students with an online environment for online and hybrid courses as well as to supplement the learning experience within face-to-face courses. Blackboard Learn integrates with NSCC’s Banner student information system to automatically provide "private course spaces" for each class taught at the college. Student enrollments and faculty assignments are also handled automatically by the Banner integration. Blackboard Learn is accessible from the college’s MyNorthshore portal. Once inside of Blackboard Learn, faculty and students will see a list of courses, organizations and other resources that are available to them.

This technology enhances the experience a student finds at NSCC by fostering student interaction in a variety of ways. An instructor can choose to use Blackboard Learn to display and deliver content, communicate and interact with students, provide online assignments, and assess students’ work. Blackboard Learn can also be used to provide department or group space for many activity areas – including teaching, research and public service.

Blackboard Learn supports many types of media for creating and interacting with engaging content such as:

  • Audio and video, for example YouTube videos
  • Discussion, blogging, and journalism tools for interacting with students and encouraging them to engage with the content
  • A powerful, interactive grade center and assessment tools that enable instructors to record and assess students’ work in a variety of ways
