Green Roof Garden

The new building features a green roof over the student services section. This section of the roof is covered with soil and vegetation, increasing insulation of the building and thereby reducing heating and cooling costs. The green roof serves several purposes:

  • it increases the roof's lifespan
  • filters pollutants and carbon dioxide out of the air
  • filters pollutants out of rainwater
  • reduces storm water runoff
  • provides a habitat for plants, bees, birds
  • reduces ambient temperatures by preventing the absorption of solar radiation and re-emitting it as heat

The Green Roof Garden is planted with vegetation called sedum, which is drought resistant plant that naturally insulates the building in the winter and helps reduce heat gain in the summer. It looks great with virtually no maintenance.
