Course Prerequisites and Placement Testing
In order to enroll in any course at NSCC, students must demonstrate that they have completed prerequisites. Students who have satisfied a course prerequisite by taking a course or have tested elsewhere must submit proof (scores or transcripts) to Enrollment before they will be eligible to enroll in these courses. Computerized Placement Tests provide another opportunity to establish prerequisites.
Students who need to develop their skills in order to be successful in college-level courses may enroll in preparatory Communications and Mathematics classes. Placement into these courses will be determined based on scores from Computerized Placement Tests.
Students whose first language is not English and need specific courses may schedule an English as a Second Language assessment to determine levels of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking and enroll in ESL classes. Non-credit English language classes are available to help students whose English language skills range from Basic to Advanced.
