Need help filling out the FAFSA? Here are important tips to completing the form and resources that are available to help students through the process.

In our steps on Applying for Financial Aid we give you a brief overview of the application process at NSCC. The first step is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www.fafsa.gov. The application is FREE! If you are being charged a fee to complete the form you have gone to the wrong website.

The form has been redesigned over the years to be easy and less time consuming. Completing the application should take less than a half hour. We recommend that you try to fill out the form on your own as you will need to complete it every year you attend college. Many students are surprised about how quick and easy it really is.

The FAFSA has many great resources to help you through the form. Here is a list of what to look for if you need help:

  • Before you start the application if you click the Help icon at the top of the page it will explain the form and shows the questions that have been asked by other students.
  • Read the “Help and Hints” located at the right side of any FAFSA pages.
  • Click the “Need Help?” at the bottom of any of the pages.
  • Chat with live technical support staff by clicking the Help icon with the big question mark at the top of any page and under Browse FAQs there is a Contact Us section with the chat option.

So, you tried filling out the FAFSA and you need additional help? These resources can help guide you through the process.
