Sad News
It is with great sadness and regret that we inform the NSCC family of the passing of longtime Professor James (Jim) Robinson. A lifelong educator, musician, actor, writer, and director, Jim had recently retired as Chair of the Cultural Studies Department at NSCC.
Keeping Jim's family, friends and colleagues in our thoughts and prayers.

Discussion on the Fall Semester Relative to COVID-19
As we look forward to the beginning of the fall semester, the COVID-19 re-entry team
continues its work to ensure a campus that is safe for all employees and maximizes
learning for our students. To that end, I invite you to attend an open forum on Wednesday,
September 2nd from 9:00 am-10:30 am. The forum will provide details on the fall re-entry
plan and provide an opportunity for you to ask questions.
The link to the Zoom meeting will be sent out prior to meeting.
Health and happiness,
--Interim President Nate Bryant
Seeking Student Referrals!
I am pleased to share the news that our Peer Tutor Training Program has earned Level
1 International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) from the College Reading
and Learning Association (CRLA.) Because of this, each NSCC peer tutor now has the
opportunity to work toward the status of Certified Peer Tutor. I have long been proud
of our tutors' skill and dedicated work, and after earning their required training
and tutoring hours, they now can add Certification achievement to their resumes.
I write now with this news because this certification benefit (above and beyond the
tutoring experience and hourly wage!) may be an additional incentive for new tutor
applicants. Our open peer tutor positions for fall have just gone live on the Human
Resources web page. (Click here for the posting.) I am particularly looking for new peer tutors in the following subjects:
1. Math, especially calculus and statistics
2. Microeconomics and macroeconomics
3. Respiratory care
4. Physical therapy assistant
5. Spanish
6. Writing
Campus Location: Remote
Do you have a star student to recommend? If so, please encourage your student to apply at the above link, and/or to contact me for further information. Please also feel free to contact me with any questions. Many of our stellar tutors have found their way to us via faculty and staff referral! Many thanks for your consideration.

Programming to Support Our Students in the Fall
As we transitioned to remote learning this Spring, many groups and individuals offered programming to support our students' mental, social, and academic well-being. The Fall semester will bring its own challenges, and the Student Development Committee is reaching out to all of you to find out what kinds of programming groups or individuals might have planned (or be considering) to continue to support our students' well-being in the Fall. Are you offering a support group for a particular population? A fun way to de-stress? In an effort to help promote this programming and get the word out to as many people as possible, the SDC would love to hear about it! Please also let us know if you have suggestions about types of programming that NSCC could offer, and we will do our best to forward those suggestions to the appropriate people or groups.
Thanks to those who have reached out already! If you’d like to be part of a group
of faculty and staff offering remote, Friday meditation sessions in the Fall—especially
if you could offer these sessions in Spanish as well—please let us know!
Please email Student Development Committee Chair, Nicki Buscemi (nbuscemi@northshore.edu), with ideas!
