The Fab Four!
Our four student Commencement speakers - clockwise, starting top left: Solmaria Deleon, 10am; Aya Mohamed, 1pm; Rosanna Fernandez, 4pm and Luciano Hoxhaj, 6:30pm - were phenomenal! Each had their own unique story to tell and each of them
offered words of advice and encouragement to their fellow 2022 grads. If you were
unable to attend the ceremonies, you can view them at this link:

Also falling under the heading of Fab Four were our four AMAZING Commencement ceremonies! Amanda Dooling and the NSCC "village" did an outstanding job putting together four ceremonies that were meaningful and FUN for our graduates, their families, and our faculty and staff! So many people commented on how wonderful it was to have live, in-person ceremonies again! Kudos to all involved!

June is LGBQ+T Pride Month
June is LGBQ+T Pride Month to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. In the United States the last Sunday in June was initially celebrated as "Gay Pride Day," but the actual day was flexible. In major cities across the nation the "day" soon grew to encompass a month-long series of events. Today, celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts, and LGBTQ Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world. Memorials are held during this month for those members of the community who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.
In 1994, a coalition of education-based organizations in the United States designated October as LGBT History Month. In 1995, a resolution passed by the General Assembly of the National Education Association included LGBT History Month within a list of commemorative months. National Coming Out Day (October 11), as well as the first "March on Washington" in 1979, are commemorated in the LGBTQ community during LGBT History Month.

Welcome to the
Equality & Equity Project
As part of our commitment to Anti-Racism, Diversity & Inclusion, the Equality & Equity Project will provide historical and present-day information about the contributions, challenges,
culture, and daily lives of the many vital groups that make up our NSCC community,
and the larger world.
We invite you to visit often, reflect on what you see and read, discuss it with others and, hopefully, expand your knowledge base, appreciation, and understanding of groups beyond your own.
