Honors Program Showcase

Please join the Honors Program in its 3rd annual Honors Program Showcase, which is taking place on Wednesday, March 18th from 4-6pm in Lynn, 2nd floor South.  The Showcase is an opportunity for Honors students to show one piece of their Honors work and to practice the art of explanation, as they give a short 5-minute presentation along with a poster that details their work.  We will have external judges select two winners, rewarding their hard work and the clarity of their knowledge.  I hope you can join us for at least part of the Showcase to revel in our students' accomplishments.

Student Nominations Needed for NSCC’s “29 Who Shine” Honoree

Nominations are now being accepted for this year’s “29 Who Shine” student honoree.  This event, organized annually by the MA Department of Higher Education to recognize an outstanding graduate from each of the state’s 29 public colleges, will be held Thursday, April 30 at the MA State House.

Please nominate your best and brightest students for this honor. Nominations are due no later than Tuesday, March 11.  Like last year, the DHE also needs the name of a faculty member who played a pivotal role in the student’s education experience.  Both the student and faculty member will be expected to attend the ceremony and a reception following.

Criteria for 29 Who Shine 2020:

  • The individual student graduate of the Class of 2020 shows exceptional promise as a future leader in civic affairs or in business or professional activity in Massachusetts, having demonstrated an ability to contribute to the civic and/or economic wellbeing of the Commonwealth. The student should have a strong record of civic engagement and have made a demonstrable contribution to their community and/or the state. This aspect of the student’s profile should be the most significant in judging the nomination.
  • The student intends to pursue a career track or interest for which there is a demonstrated need in the Commonwealth, such as a high-demand STEM-related career (health care, life sciences, information technology), or a start-up business that will produce jobs, or a community service role to better the lives of fellow Massachusetts citizens (such as teaching, working in a social service agency or community organization, etc.)
  • The student is a Massachusetts resident who plans to continue living and working in the state upon graduation. A student who plans to live in Massachusetts after furthering his or her education, either in or out of state, would also qualify.
  • The student will complete their degree or certificate requirements at a Massachusetts community college, state university or UMass campus within the 2019-2020 academic year.
  • The student is able to attend the 29 Who Shine awards ceremony at the Massachusetts State House scheduled for April 30, 2020.

Please submit student names and description of how they meet the above criteria to Linda Brantley, Executive Director of External & Public Relations at no later than March 11. President Gentile will make the selection decision based on nominations received.   


Diversity Leadership Council is requesting pictures
for Faces of NSCC 2020!

The Diversity Leadership Council (DLC) is collecting pictures and quotes for its annual Faces of NSCC video, which highlights students, staff, faculty, and events at the College.  Faces of NSCC 2020 will be shown at graduation, open houses, campus events, orientations, and outreach events.  “Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion in NSCC’s Community”.

Please take and send pictures of students, staff, faculty, classes, departments, events on campus, and yourself!  

Students' music is encouraged and welcomed! Email me your link!

There is a question on the release form for those who would like to provide a quote, which is optional.  People may have their picture taken with or without including a quote.

Open to ALL Veterans and their families including NSCC student, faculty, and staff Veterans.

NSVC is hosting a resource fair for veterans and their families. All vendors are veteran specific ranging from different VA programs to non-profit organizations across the state. Vendors will represent housing, financial assistance, mental health services, service dog organizations, and higher education. Free dinner will be served @ 6:15pm-7:00pm. Break-out sessions will be held; topics are Mission Act, Women Veterans Health Program, CH 115 benefits, and VA Claims.

Professional Development Fund$ Available

The Professional Development (PD) Committee would like to let faculty and staff know that professional development funds are available.

There are three levels of PD grants that you can apply for.

  • Mini grant ($300 or less)
  • Large grant ($301-$1500 – requests are currently being funded at 75%)
  • Coursework grant (for undergraduate or graduate credit coursework, up to $500)

Please note that out-of-state travel requires pre-approval from your Vice President and the President. You will want to have the pre-approval to travel in writing (email is fine) before you submit the PD grant application. A copy of this pre-approval to travel will need to be forwarded to the PD Committee Chair.

Before completing the PD grant application form, please review the eligibility and application guidelines. These are available on My Northshore.

Applications are due at least one week prior to the monthly governance meetings.

Enjoy lunch at the Beacon!

NSCC's student-run café, The Beacon, opened on January 23rd and will serve on Tuesdays and Thursdays until Tuesday, April 28th. The café will be closed on February 13, 18 & 20 to accommodate student enrichment. We will also be closed March 10th and 12th for NSCC Spring Break.

The café will be serving from a standard a la carte menu including choices of soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees and desserts. Check out the menu - The café has two seating times: 11:00 AM or 11:45 AM- RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. To make a reservation request, please call 978-762-4000 ext 1513 and follow the instructions on the message.

The Beacon Café is located at 30 Log Bridge Rd in Middleton right off Route 114 West.
