For Fall 2020, most of NSCC's courses will be virtual – including online, hybrid, and videoconference – to ensure our community's safety and maintain social distancing. Targeted courses that need to occur face-to-face on campus will occur predominantly in lab based classes, using social distancing protocols.
Start cooking today with a career in Culinary Arts and Food Service
NSCC’s Culinary Arts and Food Service associate degree program covers all aspects of food preparation including meats, poultry, fish, vegetables, sauces, soups, bread and pastry baking, desserts, specialty cooking, dining room service and more. Courses begin with the basics of knife-handling in the kitchen lab through the implementation of our on-campus restaurant kitchen, dining room, and bakery. Courses are complemented with the study of nutrition and food sciences, as well as classes in management, facilities planning, and personnel administration. Students will also learn about the fascinating cultural impact of food including food history and food writing. Opportunities for NSCC graduates are wide ranging in all areas of both direct food preparation and related management in the food service field.
As part of this program, students will enhance their career development by integrating classroom study and work experience in the restaurant management field through participation in NSCC’s Cooperative Education/Internship.
