Nate Bryant, Ed.D., became North Shore Community College’s Interim President on July 5, 2020. He replaces Dr. Patricia A. Gentile who served as NSCC’s fourth president for seven years.
Dr. Bryant brings 30 years of leadership at Salem State University, his alma mater. His career there advanced from the positions of assistant dean of the Center for Academic Excellence, assistant dean of students for the office of student life, and director of undergraduate admissions. Prior to becoming NSCC’s interim president, Dr. Bryant served as the Vice President and Chief of Staff to the President at Salem State. As Vice President and Chief of Staff, Dr. Bryant was responsible for oversight of the president’s office including its day-to-day activities, coordinating the work of the president’s senior leadership team, and coordinating the University’s strategic planning efforts. Additionally, Dr. Bryant oversaw the areas of athletics, enrollment management, marketing and communications, public relations, the center for civic engagement, external affairs, and grants.
Dr. Bryant holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s in education from SSU. He holds a doctorate in higher education from the University of Massachusetts – Boston. He attended Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education, Institute for Educational Management, an institute focused on leadership for senior level administrators in higher education.
A resident of Salem, Dr. Bryant has served his community in various capacities, including a former role on the Salem School Committee for 8 years. He currently sits on the boards of North Shore Medical Center, the Salem Chamber of Commerce, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Salem and is on the Executive Committee of The Salem Partnership. He is also a Corporator of Marblehead Bank and a volunteer at Haven from Hunger Food Pantry.
Dr. Bryant recently had a chapter published in Accessibility and Diversity in the 21st Century University. The chapter entitled “A Dream Realized: Helping Low-Income Students Succeed in College,” aligns with Dr. Bryant’s field of research, which examines and identifies programs and services that positively impact retention for low-income and first-generation students.
