The goal of the Green Curriculum Project is to improve ecological literacy at NSCC by providing resources and assistance to full and part-time faculty who wish to integrate sustainability issues and environmental concepts into their courses. By greening the college curriculum, NSCC will help students better understand the world in which they live and promote the values, actions, and lifestyles required for a sustainable future. The Green Curriculum Project will provide the opportunity for the study of sustainability from a variety of perspectives and through the content of multiple disciplines and programs.
What are Green Curriculum Courses?
Faculty participants will work with The Green Curriculum Project Team to develop and implement a discipline-related course component on some aspect of sustainability. Faculty may implement the component in one or more sections of a course. The development phase of the project will be in the spring; the implementation phase will occur in the fall. To assist participants through the various stages of their projects, there will be two required group workshops each semester. These will allow time for sharing and the discussion of essential topics related to teaching and learning for a sustainable future. Guidelines and models will be provided. Participants will receive a stipend of $600.00 ($300.00 each semester) for the completion of their work with The Green Curriculum Project.
