Adult Learning Center
FREE basic literacy and GED prep courses to help you pursue further education and job training.
The Adult Learning Center offers
students three levels of classes, from basic literacy through GED preparation. Professional instructors, assisted by
experienced volunteers, teach the small-sized classes. Students progress at their own pace.
Where & when are the classes held?
The Adult Learning Center at North Shore Community College is located at the Cummings Center in Beverly, MA. Classes meet three mornings a week from September to June. A Fast-Track GED class is also offered two evenings per week.
How can I enroll?
Anyone who has not completed high school, is at least 16 years old, and is not currently in school can enroll.

appointment with a program
counselor.
- Take an assessment test.
- Add your name to the wait list for the class that will fit your needs.
What skills are taught in our classes?
- Oral Communication - English
language skills
- Reading - Vocabulary skills to
reading comprehension
- Writing - Grammar, punctuation
and essay/report writing
- Math - Basic arithmetic to algebra
and geometry
- GED Preparation - Preparation
for each of the five areas in the
GED test: math, literature, science,
social studies and writing
