Academic Advising
At the beginning of the academic year, most students will be assigned a faculty advisor who can help them select courses and guide their academic progress. Students will find out who their advisor is by a letter sent to them in the first few weeks of school or they may visit a Student Support Center location or Academic Affairs to obtain the name of their advisor.
Choosing a Program
Choosing a program of study can be a confusing and daunting task. Fortunately, students who are undecided about what program to pursue can make an appointment with the Student Support Center to explore options and ask questions. Career exploration counseling may be utilized to aid students in their decision.
Students are encouraged to review the list of programs offered and the requirements needed to complete them. North Shore Community College offers a variety of programs. NSCC offers both Certificate and Degree programs so it is important to know the difference. In addition, the Institute for Corporate Training & Technology offers programs designed to help enhance one's skills or prepare one for a new profession.
Changing a Program
Students who wish to change their program must fill out a Change of Program Form (pdf
35k
) and submit it to Admissions. If a student is undecided about what program he or she would like to pursue, the student may make an appointment to discuss choosing a new program or to discuss career exploration.
