A "basic camera" course that teaches new photographers techniques for both 35-mm and digital adjustable cameras and accessories. Learn to work outside of the automatic features on your camera. Covers f-stops, shutter speed, focusing, depth of field, composition, and when and how to use different film types and digital settings, plus proper use of filters and lenses. Please bring to class your own adjustable 35-mm film camera or a digital camera that allows you to switch out of automatic mode.

Explore and photograph a variety of natural and urban environments in and around Beverly. You will travel to shoots independently meeting up with professor and the other students. At each site following a short lecture, you will use your camera to document and explore.

Learn in-depth electronic image editing and processing techniques using Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. The class will focus on real-life processing issues, including: exposure fixes, stitching, red eye, resolution issues, clone repair, marquee selection, layer operations, levels and curves, web and print concerns, color replacement, image montages, printing, batch processing, file types including raw, color rules, gradients, text, masking and much more. Should have basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows or Mac environments. Camera not required.

An introductory, hands-on course to explore Adobe Photoshop as a creative tool and as a tool to support creative work. While providing students with a strong grounding in basic Photoshop skills we will go beyond simple photo enhancement and will have fun exploring Photoshop's more creative possibilities. We will also look at ways to use Photoshop to effectively present and promote creative work whether it originates in Photoshop or is imported from the real world. Students should be comfortable with at least one computer platform (PC or Mac) and enjoy being creative.
