 CSJ330 - CPR & AED (the new, 2006 Guidelines)

How do I Register?
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator can greatly reduce the chance of death when a person is found in cardiac arrest. The Basic Life Support skills will be taught along with rescue breathing, care for choking, and patient assessment skills to empower the student to respond with speed and confidence in a life-threatening emergency. The course cost includes a full-color text that should be picked up at the Cummings Center, Beverly and read before the class. Successful completion of this class earns a certificate from the American Heart Association for CPR that is valid for two years.

 CSJ374 - Professional Rescuer CPR
Non-Credit
How do I Register?
This advanced CPR course is required of healthcare professionals, lifeguards, and other first responders. Utilizing the new 2006 Guidelines, students will be taught BLS skills for all ages of patients (infant, child, and adult) including rescue breathing, foreign body airway obstruction, 2-person CPR and AED use. The course cost includes a textbook to be picked up at Cummings Center, Beverly and read before the class. Successful completion of all skill stations and the final exam earns a certificate from the American Heart Association for Professional Rescuer CPR valid for two years. Attendance for the entire course is required for successful completion. Note: This course is the American Heart Association Healthcare Provider course. Meets the CRR requirement for accepted Health Professions students at NSCC.

 CSJ407 - Basic First Aid

How do I Register?
This First Aid class covers all of the essentials that one needs to be prepared for a medical emergency. Topics include being prepared for an emergency, legal issues regarding providing care to strangers, protecting yourself from infectious disease while providing care, and how to respond when an emergency arises. Care for injuries includes burns, bleeding and wound care, bandaging and splinting, and assisting with spine immobilization. Medical conditions considered include heart attack, stroke, diabetes, seizures, poisoning, and heat/cold emergencies. The course cost includes a full-color text that should be picked up at the Cummings Center, Beverly, and read before the class. Successful completion of the class earns a certificate from the American Heart Association for Basic First Aid that is valid for three years.
