Legal Office Support (LO)

Career, Certificate (C1)

The Legal Office Support certificate is a short-term training program specifically designed for students interested in acquiring the skills needed for entry-level positions in small to medium law firms. Training focuses on developing a high level of proficiency in keyboarding and word processing, preparing various legal documents, and understanding legal office ethics and procedures. Students learn how to prepare court and client documents related to various legal specialties such as litigation, contracts, torts, criminal law, family law, real estate, wills and estates.

Courses in this certificate are transferable to the Legal Administrative Assistant (degree) program.

 Notes
 1 Individuals with NO previous Keyboarding/Typewriting experience or individuals who type fewer than 35 words per minute should take OFT101 in the first semester. Individuals who type 45 or more words per minute AND have knowledge of MSWord should enroll in OFT201, and upon successful completion can receive 3 credits for OFT102 by Evaluation Credit by Certificate/License through the Center for Alternative Studies and Educational Testing.
 2 A minimum grade of C- is required to graduate from this program and to meet OFT prerequisites.
 3 Individuals who have taken OFT201-Keyboarding 3 in their first semester should enroll in OFT209-Information Transcription or OFT226-Records Management and Database Application.
