New Environmental Studies Associate Degree, certificates in Special Needs and Accounting begin Fall 2010
July 2010
Starting in September 2010, North Shore Community College will launch a new associate degree program in Environmental Studies to help the North Shore workforce prepare for "green" jobs and to provide knowledge on a variety of environmental topics.
The program offers two tracks—Environmental Science and Environmental Awareness. Each track prepares students for a liberal arts associate degree and is one of several NSCC transfer programs which allow students to apply credits earned at NSCC toward a bachelor's degree and enter any public four-year college and university as a junior. The new Environmental Science track is designed for students planning to transfer into engineering and environmental science bachelor's degree programs, while the Environmental Awareness track is for those who want to learn about environmental topics and "green" jobs while enrolled in traditional college majors, such as History, English and Science.
NSCC's new credit Special Needs Certificate offers a one-year training program for students or professionals to continue their education in order to work with children with special needs. Students who earn this certificate can remain at NSCC to earn their associate degree in Early Childhood Education—graduates can then transfer their credits to Fitchburg State College to pursue their Bachelor's Degree in special education or to Lesley University's Early Intervention program.
For anyone interested in Accounting, NSCC's new credit certificate offers a one-year program designed for beginners or professionals looking to update their skills. In addition to financial accounting, training includes managerial accounting and taxation.
