Healthy Planet, Healthy People Sustainability Fair, October 20

 

Healthy Planet, Healthy People will be the theme of North Shore Community College's (NSCC) 2nd annual Danvers Sustainability Fair, which will be held Saturday, October 20, 10:00a.m.-2:00p.m. at NSCC's Danvers Campus, 1 Ferncroft Road.

The fair, which is free and open to all, will feature exhibits, environmentally sound vendors, lectures on environmental and wellness issues, and face painting and free pumpkins (while they last) for the kids. Licensed drivers (valid drivers license required) will have an opportunity to test drive a Chevy Volt, provided by Amesbury Chevrolet.

Back by popular demand will be tours of the college's new Health Professions and Student Services Building - the Commonwealth's first Zero Net Energy building.

The student-led tours of NSCC's new building will highlight its "green" features such as geothermal heating and cooling, chilled beams, photovoltaic panels for electricity generation, passive solar heat dispersion shelves, green lighting and smart sensors, and a green roof.

The fair will feature a wide variety of exhibitors and vendors including:

Short presentations on topics related to energy, sustainability and wellness will be given by several speakers followed by a question and answer period. The speakers include:

10:30 a.m.
Fred Hopps, President of The Worthmore Group, speaking about green jobs, green energy technology and sustainable energy education

11:15 a.m.
Lisa Kirshon, from The Good Life, A Daily Dose of Vitamin Chi will provide a demonstration of Tai Chi and Chi Gong

Noon
Karen Ristuben performing artist from Gloucester, will present her multimedia performance Plastics, about plastic pollution in the oceans

1:00 p.m.
Dr. Peter Martone D.C., Atlantis Wellness Chiropractic
