Academic Counselor for Admissions and Recruitment
Admissions and Recruitment
For Michele Harris, it's all about the students. An academic counselor in admissions, Michele says, "Every day I know I have the potential of transforming someone's life. I love being able to help students define their educational path and discover their deepest potential."
Michele has been at NSCC for six years. Prior to that she did similar work at Northern Essex Community College for nine years, where she started as an admissions assistant. She earned her bachelor's degree and was promoted to a recruitment specialist, then went on for her master's degree and became an admissions counselor.
Michele may be one of the first people potential students meet from NSCC as she frequently attends high school college fairs, open houses and other external events. She works with Career Centers and other community organizations to counsel students about NSCC and explore how their interests may be met here.
"I get great satisfaction out of helping to enrich the lives of our students. Many have never been to college before, or really have any idea what they want to pursue. It's great to see them discover their purpose in life. I have had some amazing experiences with students, particularly the "Ah, ha!" moments in my office. And the students are so grateful... they come back or keep in touch to say 'Thank You!'" Michele explained.
Michele is also proud of the college's commitment to diversity. "As an African American I appreciate the way the college embraces diversity. It has made a consistent effort which has been very beneficial for our students and staff. NSCC truly is a place where all are welcomed and helped to succeed."
