Computer Skills and Equipment Needed for Online and Hybrid Courses

Some courses have special software requirements.

A listing of special requirements is available here. You may either log in with your Pipeline username and password or use orientation as the username and guest as the password.

To find special course requirements:

  • Click on the "Course Orientations" link
  • You will see a listing of online courses
  • Within each course link you will find a listing of the special requirements for that course

Computer Requirements

1. You must have daily access to:

  • a PC running Windows XP or higher with Internet access

or

  • a Mac computer running OS X with Internet access

2. You will need the following software:

  • Microsoft Word
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Flash player

3. Make sure your Web browser is compatible with ANGEL.

  • These browsers are okay to use for PCs:
    • Internet Explorer version 7, 8, or 9
    • Mozilla Firefox version 3 or 4
    • Note: Beta versions or recently released versions of these browsers might not be compatible with all functionality in ANGEL and users may experience some issues.
  • For MACs, you can use Mozilla Firefox version 3 or 4.
  • The following browsers are NOT compatible:
    • Internet Explorer 6 or below
    • Firefox 2 or below
    • Google Chrome
    • Safari
    • AOL
    • Netscape
  • 4. Make sure your browser is configured to work properly with ANGEL. To participate in your course, your browser must be configured to:
      • Accept all cookies
      • Enable JavaScript
      • Reload cache every time

    Recommended Computer Skills

    • Basic word processing functions such as creating and editing documents, highlighting, copying, and pasting text.
    • Basic computer skills that enable you to use the Web and email, including attachments, comfortably.
    • Familiarity with terms like Web browser, online, Internet, World Wide Web, URL, Web site and Web pages.
    • The ability to upload and download materials from the web.
    • The ability to format, compose, send, cut, copy, and paste email messages.
