Mission
The Tourism and Hospitality program is designed to provide students with specific knowledge, skills, and competencies needed for a variety of positions in hotel/resort/lodging establishments, tourist attractions, museums, convention & visitor's bureaus, chambers of commerce, and tour guide services.
Programs of Study
A high school diploma, GED, or passing score on a
federally approved Ability To Benefit Test is required for admission
to all programs. Contact the Admissions Office
for more information.

1. Current Tourism and Hospitality Students Please do not forget to register early for Fall 2005 courses. Stop by and visit Betty Kelly (located in Lynn- LW212)or call her (X6660)to make an appointment for advising during April or May.
2. Now is the time stop by LW212 to recieve an application for the Massachusetts Lodging Associations Annual Scholarship.
3. Exciting, NEW PROGRAM OPTION A SUCCESS! BEGAN FALL, 2002--HOTEL MANAGEMENT Since its inception in 2002, hotel management students have been gaining experience working in area hotels part-time while earning their degree.
The program was designed for people interested in pursuing specialized careers in Hotel management. Students will take a variety of courses in hotel management, business, liberal arts and either an Internship or Co-op.
4. Starting January, 2003 Travel, Tourism, and Hospitality Students may become a member of Boston Travel Professionals. This professional organization provides students with networking oportunities, mentoring, and internships for qualified students.

Successful Meetings
Successful Meetings magazine is an excellent source for information about the meetings industry. Articles from this magazine are discussed in the course titled Planning Meetings, Conferences, and Special Events.
Program Activities
Professional Meetings Students participate in monthly meetings of organizations such as Boston Travel Professionals and the North of Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau. At these meetings students have the opportunity to network with future colleagues and listen to guest speakers. Topics may include travel law, how to plan a meeting on a budget, marketing opportunities for your business, and how to sell travelers insurance.
Practical Industry Field Experiences In classes such as Hotel Operations and Tour Management students may tour the front and back of hotels to do what the industry calls "site inspections."
Travel Opportunity
Spring Break in Rome, Italy a Success!!
Students and Faculty visited not only Rome but places such as Florence and area wineries. Everyone enjoyed the wonderful food which included Mussels, pasta,and Gelato (local ice cream).
During spring break students have the opportunity to volunteer (at their own expense; usually under $1000.00) to assist the instructor to plan a week's vacation and to act as assistant tour managers for the week.
COP202 Cooperative Education/Internship Course Information
The programs which prepare students to enter the workforce directly from North Shore Community College, Hotel management (HO) and Travel, Tourism and Hospitality (TG), require the successful completion of the COP202 Cooperative Education/Internship course. To be eligible to waive this program requirement, you must demonstrate relevant full-time or equivalent part-time work experience in your major field of study within the last 3 to 5 years.
