Mission
The Department of Environmental Technology at North Shore Community College is committed to providing a high quality learning and personal enrichment environment to students preparing for careers in the horticultural and environmental industries. The department fulfills this commitment by offering highly relevant coursework and related experiences. Our programs are designed to enhance students' potential for success in their chosen careers and personal lives. At the same time we strive to provide the community with a qualified and professional workforce.
Programs of Study
A high school diploma, GED, or passing score on a
federally approved Ability To Benefit Test is required for admission

About Our Programs
The Floriculture Career Certificate (C2) program is designed for students preparing for careers in the floral and interiorplantscaping industries. Students receive practical, in-depth training in floral design, plant identification and care, small business management and interiorplantscaping. Employment opportunities include floral designers, greenhouse crop producers, retail flower shop operators, wholesale floral workers and interiorplantscape technicians. Business courses help prepare students for self employment. Graduates of this one year certificate can go straight into the work force or may choose to continue on at NSCC and turn their certificate into a 2 year degree in Floriculture.

The Horticulture degree program is designed for students wishing to become employed or self employed in the green industry. Students are prepared for a wide range of employment opportunities in landscaping and landscape management, nursery and garden center operations, turf and golf course management, urban tree care and related opperations. Students may prepare for Massachusetts State arboricultural licensing, pesticide licensing and hydraulics licensing.

Empoloyment opportunities include floral designers, greenhouse crop producers, retail flower shop operators, wholesale floral workers, gardencenter managers and interiorplantscape technicians. Business courses help prepare students for self employment.
