The Mission Statement
The Professional Pilot Program at NSCC is designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge, skills and training, to become commercially certificated pilots. We prepare students to continue flight training for job placement as flight instructors and regional airline pilots. The program emphasizes a strong culture of safety through effective resource management, human factors and safety awareness training. We maintain national accreditation status and respond to technological changes through continued internal review, program improvement, and consultation with industry. We have articulation agreements with 4 year institutions to provide our students transferability to continue education opportunities.
Student Acheivement
When students graduate from the Professional Pilot Program here at North Shore Community College, they will be able to successfully:
1) Write and communicate about aviation safety issues using accident analysis.
2) Interpret chart, navigate a course, and develop a flight plan using mathematical computations using latest aviation computer technology.
3) Present to an FAA or Pilot Examiner in a clear and competent way.
4) Interpret weather information and use it to make effective decision making
5) Emphasize importance of safety and further promote the culture of safety.
6) Demonstrate an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility through the composition of a resume and business letter and through successful analysis of common ethical standards in the aviation industry.
7) Function on teams and work collaboratively on simulated cockpit decision-making scenarios.
8) Engage in lifelong learning through participation in school sponsored safety seminars.
9) Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary aircraft through ground training, simulation and flight training.
10) Examine the skills, knowledge and requirements to successfully pass ratings and flight certificates.
11) Examine human factors associated with aviation safety and come to conclusion on causal factors on aviation accidents.
