Clinical Affiliations
The RT program is a full time day program in which students attend didactic classes at the college and participate in clinical education at area hospitals. Freshman students will be at their clinical affiliate on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Sophomore students will be at their clinical affiliate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Clinical hours are from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Students will also be at their clinical assignments Monday through Friday during the Janauary Intersessions and for 13 weeks during the summer between the freshman and sophomore year. The program limits clinical and academic involvement for students to not more than 40 hours per week.
Students in the Radiologic Technology program perform their clinical internship at either Beverly Hospital/Addison Gilbert Hospital, Salem Hospital or Union Hospital. Students accepted to the RT program are placed at a clinical site by the program placement committee. The RT program is proud to have affiliation agreements with these exceptional area hospitals and students greatly benefit from their clinical experiences.
The RT program at NSCC is authorized by the program's accreditation bureau to accept no more than twenty (20) incoming freshman students for each class. This number is determined so that each student has the opportunity to complete the clinical competency requirements needed in order to sit for the National Certification examination in Radiologic Technology.
Certification Eligibility Requirements
Program graduates must sit for and pass the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist) examination in order to work as a Radiologic Technologist. The ARRT oversees the education, ethics and examinations of all Radiologic Technologists.
Applicants to the RT program must meet the ethics requirements necessary in order to be able to sit for the ARRT examination after sucessful completion of the program. If you have any questions regarding your eligibility to sit for the ARRT exam, please watch the video entitled "Certification Eligibility Requirements" in the Student Resources section of the ASRT website at www.asrt.org
