Cosmetology

Mission

North Shore Community College offers the most progressive Cosmetology program in the state. The faculty has designed a competency-based curriculum that includes training in scientific as well as artistic principles. Students have the opportunity to develop their manipulation skills and practice hands on fundamentals in an actual salon environment. Graduates will be prepared to pass the State Board Examination, leading to issuing an operator's license and elegibility to work in a salon.
The professional Beauty Industry conducts more than 50 billion dollars in services and product sales annually. Employment is available in the beauty field as a skin, nail care or hair design specialist, as a platform artist and in many related businesses.


Programs of Study

A high school diploma, GED, or passing score on a federally approved Ability To Benefit Test is required for admission to all programs. Contact the Admissions Office for more information.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Students interested in attending in the Fall of next year need to get an application from Admissions. This program fills up very fast.

When does this program start?
The cosmetology program starts in September and ends in May. It is a 1000-clock-hour program.

On what campus is the cosmetology program being offered?
This program is only offered at the Hathorne Campus on Route 62 in Danvers. (You can find a map and directions here.)

Is this a part-time or full-time program?
This is a full-time program and students are in class Monday through Friday starting at 8:00 A.M. to 2:20 P.M. each day.

Can I take haircutting only? Do you offer just make-up classes?
Each student needs to take the entire program which covers theory, practice and hands-on, including instructions in haircutting and make-up, as well as all other areas of cosmetology.

Can I take only manicuring?
Yes, our manicuring program is offered twice a year--in fall and spring. It is a 100-hour program and it is offered only in the evening on the Hathorne campus.

Can I take only the Aesthetics Program?
Yes, our Aesthetics program is offered once a year starting in the fall ending the following spring.
