A clicker, sometimes referred to as a student, audience, or classroom response system, is a device used in the classroom to poll students. Turning Technologies is the company that makes the clickers that we use here at North Shore Community College. A Turning Point clicker can be used to determine knowledge level in a certain subject matter or to voice an opinion on a topic. They are a tool to help with student engagement, retention of knowledge, and student collaboration. There are four sets of clickers at the Danvers Campus and three sets of clickers at the Lynn Campus for faculty to check out.

Getting Started with TurningPoint Clickers at NSCC

  • The TurningPoint software has already been installed on the instructor computers in the smart classrooms, in the smart cart classrooms and on the COWs.
  • You can also download and install the TurningPoint software from the Turning Technologies web site onto your work computer.
    1. The software is located under "Support" and then "Downloads."
    2. Click on "TurningPoint" (under Polling Software) and then "PC—Install Version."
    3. Once the software is downloaded, install it on your computer.
  • View the tutorials on the Turning Technologies web site.
    1. The tutorials are located under "Support" and then "Product Training."
    2. Click on "Online Tutorials" and then "View PC Tutorials" (under TurningPoint) to view the self-paced training modules.
  • Academic Technology staff are available to meet with you for additional training and assistance on using the clickers in your classroom. Please contact Dave Houle at dhoule@northshore.edu or 978-739-5530 to schedule a meeting.
  • Create a classroom technology equipment request (media request) at least 48 hours in advance of using clickers in the classroom.
    1. Choose "TurningPoint Clickers" under the "Equipment" field.
    2. Pick up and return the clickers from Media.
    3. Clickers can be checked out for a minimum of one class period up to a maximum of one week.
