Commencement Tickets

All graduates who plan to participate in the ceremony will need to secure their ticket online and up to four (4) tickets for their guests. These tickets are required for entrance into the arena. At the time of securing tickets, graduates are able to reserve accommodation tickets for their guests who require special seating accommodations. Tickets are required for entrance into the arena.

Need more than four tickets? 
Tickets that have not been claimed by 4:00 pm on Friday, May 17, 2019 will be added to a large pool. On Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 8:00 am, graduates can go back into the ticketing system to claim 2 more guest tickets. They will be available only until 4:00 pm on Monday, May 20, 2019. Tickets will be claimed on a first come, first served basis.

Live Streaming! 
The Commencement will be streamed live. Friends and family members who are not are not able to travel to Salem can watch the ceremony from a computer or any mobile device. 

Where Do Graduation Candidates Assemble?

On the day of the Commencement, candidates must report to the gymnasium in the O’Keefe Center no later than 3:45pm with their cap & gown. Event staff will help candidates by Division and then by academic programs. Faculty marshals will lead candidates to their seats in the arena. Please do not plan on leaving pocketbooks or other valuables unattended at this time. The gymnasium is not secured, and neither North Shore Community College nor Salem State University is responsible for lost or stolen articles. 

Cap and Gown Sets

All graduation candidates who plan to participate in the ceremony will need to purchase a cap and gown set at either the Danvers or Lynn Campus Bookstore and bring the set with you to Commencement.

Cap and gown sets are available for purchase starting Monday, March 11th until Monday, May 20th. Sets include a cap, gown, and tassel for $25.

Commencement Honors & Honor Society

Commencement Honors 

Commencement Honors are awarded to students who have completed degree or certificate requirements with a cumulative College-Level GPA of 3.30 or higher according to the following scale: 

4.00 = qualifies a student to graduate summa cum laude (gold cord) 
3.90 - 3.99 = qualifies a student to graduate summa cum laude (silver cord) 
3.70 - 3.89 = qualifies a student to graduate magna cum laude 
3.30 - 3.69 = qualifies a student to graduate cum laude 

Silver and gold cords will be distributed at check-in the day of Commencement in the O’Keefe Center.

 

DAPi, PTK, and SIGMA Students 

Students who will be or were inducted may have been given a special pin, tassel, stole and/or cord depending on the honor society. These items can be worn over the gown on Commencement Day. Contact information is provided below should you need to place an order. Please note that candidates may be financially responsible for reorders.

Candidates with Confidential Status

If your record is listed as a confidential record in the College’s Student Information System, it WILL NOT appear in the Commencement program or other commencement related materials that are released to the general public. If you would like your name to be included in these and other events, you must rescind your confidential status. To do so, please email records@northshore.edu from your NSCC email account and include your name and date of birth to authorize this update to your records. 

Although we are limited by printing deadlines, every effort will be made to include your name in the commencement activities. 

Important Commencement Information

  • Strollers, noisemakers and balloons are not allowed in the arena.
  • Bags will be checked upon entrance. Graduates and guests are encouraged to leave belongings in the car. Large bags or luggage are not allowed in the arena.
  • Parking is very limited in the O’Keefe parking lot. Please plan accordingly for yourself and your guests. SSU Parking map.
  • Dress comfortably and cool for the evening, as seating is tight and the arena gets crowded.
  • Tickets are not required for children sitting on laps who are three years old or younger.
  • NSCC and SSU are not responsible for unattended children. Each child should have an adult with them throughout the ceremony.
  • Graduates will walk to the outside Athletic Field (weather permitting) after the ceremony ends, grouped according to your Academic Division. There you can meet with faculty, friends, and guests.

Commencement Photos

Grad Images has partnered with the College to take photos of candidates on stage to as they accept the diploma cover. In order for the photographer to reach out to you with your proof and ordering information, you must write your email address on your name card. These name cards will be distributed to you the evening of the event in the gymnasium prior to the procession. Purchasing the photos is voluntary. Questions related to the photos after the ceremony can be forwarded directly to Grad Images. 

Diplomas

Diplomas will not be handed out at the Commencement ceremony. They will be available for pickup at the Danvers Enrollment Center approximately 5 weeks after the Commencement provided you have no outstanding financial obligations to the College. Graduation Candidates who wish to pick up their diploma in Lynn will need to submit a formal email request from their NSCC email address to records@northshore.edu

Potential June graduates enrolled in Summer Session One course(s) will receive their diplomas in July. Confirmation of diploma arrival will be announced via the College’s Facebook and myNorthshore.

Event Security

We strive to provide a safe and memorable Commencement ceremony for graduates, faculty, staff, and guests. We have put the following measures in place to assist in accomplishing this goal:

  • Graduation candidates and guests must refrain from bringing bags or luggage larger than 12 inches in dimension. Please leave these items at home or stored in your locked vehicle.
  • All bags and items of interest will be subject to voluntary search by public safety personnel; this includes handbags, camera bags, diaper bags, and gift bags. Persons who refuse to allow their items to be searched will be denied entry. Please do not bring packages or gift wrapped items that cannot be opened or inspected into the venue.
  • Strollers, noisemakers, horns and balloons will not be permitted in the arena.
  • NSCC and SSU are not responsible for unattended children. Each child should have an adult with them throughout the ceremony.

Please do not leave your belongings unattended at any time and report any unattended bags or suspicious packages to the Public Safety Personnel. North Shore Community College and Salem State University shall not be responsible for lost or stolen articles.

Out of respect for the Graduation candidates and the formality of the ceremony, faculty, staff, Graduation candidates, and guests must remain in their seats until all candidates have received their diploma cover and the ceremony is concluded. Please cooperate with the Commencement Event Staff in keeping the aisles clear during the ceremony.

Directions

Faculty, Staff, Graduates and Guests must plan to arrive early to avoid traffic delays. Guests must give ample time to park, go through ticket scanning and bag checking before finding seats.

From LYNN: Follow Route 1A into Salem. At the traffic light on Loring Ave., go straight ahead onto Canal Street. O’Keefe Center is the 2nd right on Forest Street.

From ROUTE 128: Follow Route 114 to Canal Street. Take a left at Forest Street. O’Keefe Center is on the right.

Parking

Enter any parking lot entrance on Forest Street. Disability parking is available on a first come, first served basis for vehicles displaying RMV issued placards or plates.  The designated spaces are along the curb in the parking lot and next to the Center. Campus Police Officers will be in the area to provide assistance.
